Every year, The Rotary Club of Kingston, in association with the Rotaract Club of Kingston, executes their Presidents Elect Training Seminar(PETS). This session allows us to not only impart our knowledge to students (from 8 high schools within Kingston) who will be Presidents in the new year, but train members in how they can effectively plan and execute their community service projects. I remember the times when persons decided to mentor me, so that I could be equipped with the necessary skills to give back, and itโs such a full circle moment that I can do that to others. I love being apart of this organization because we create so many opportunities to improve the lives of others, holistically. #DreamWithCece #CommunityService #RCOK #FellowshipThroughService #Jamaica

I wholeheartedly resonate with Armand King TED talk! The impact of mentoring at-risk youths is immeasurable. A simple conversation, a piece of advice, or just being there can alter the trajectory of their lives. Let's be the guiding light these youths need. For my local San Diegans, Promises2Kids and Voices for Children, Inc. are two non-profits dedicated to making a difference in the lives of foster children in San Diego County, Volunteer today and help change their lives for the better!#MentorshipMatters #ChangingLives #BeTheChange #MakingADifference #TEDxSanDiego"

๐Hey 2024 - itโs halftime! From a professional perspective, the past six months boil down to 3 Cs (maybe inspired by Ylva M Anderssonโs 3 Bs ๐) 1๏ธโฃC#1 - #Community: I had the privilege of leading the work on Teach for Swedenโs alumni conference โCreating Hopeโ. Iโm deeply grateful to Olena Pavliuk, Mahamed Yasin, Naeef Almezel and Sophie Lonyay for kicking us off with a much needed, heartfelt discussion about how we can create hope in times of crisis. Itโs a question that guides my work with the alumni network - what might catalyse the enormous potential for #collectiveleadership that lies within us? 2๏ธโฃC#2: #Coaching: I have completed the second part of my training to become a professional coach with Gothia Akademi. It has challenged and pushed me, and it enriches all other aspects of my professional and private life on a daily basis. Coaching is all about helping people access answers that they have within them, itโs based on a deep conviction in everybodyโs ability and competence. Imagine shaping education systems as if we truly believed in every childโs potential? Imagine what would be possible then? C#3: #Charity: I volunteer as a trustee to Amala - and I get at least as much as I give - if not more. Iโm so inspired by the work the team - and the students - do every day. During the last six months, Amala has become officially accredited by CIS and NEASC. That means truly transformative education developed by and for refugees has been recognised to be of equal (or possibly higher!) quality than other accredited high-school education. That is huge! 6 months, 3 Cs and one thing left to say: โ๏ธHappy summer everyone! โ๏ธIโm signing out now for some much anticipated annual leave and will be back in August. ๐When Iโm back, I look forward to sharing some news that also start with Cโฆ but thatโs another post. Stay tuned.

๐Hands up if you're one of those people that never realised your potential at school.. Chances are then, that you were exactly the kind of young person who would have benefitted from our Enterprise Days; and learning that you were a self-starter with the spirit needed to set up your own enterprise or business. We now need the older, wiser, more self-assured version of you (yes the current day version!) to support those young people who are like you once were. DM me to get involved, or email deasby@formthefuture.org.uk

Why developing young peopleโs speaking and listening skills is so important. โIn a future which is dominated by AI and automation the skills that will matter most arethose that machines cannot easily replicate โ creativity, critical thinking and nuancedcommunication.โWhy we Speakers Trust focus on developing the confidence and speaking skills of young people and giving them the opportunities to share their ideas out loud. Schools are not easy. They are, at their most transactional, teacher management and children management - and building management. There is an element of a Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs redux - the teachers need the space to be right to be able to manage the children, have them be open to learning, engage and inspire them.

Want to see the power of a simple mentoring relationship. Not just transformational to education outcomes, but to cut through anxiety, depression and social isolation. Watch this short film and especially the profound and unexpected ending. A deeply moving story of Bobby and how their mentor helped build a core confidence and belief. No professional qualification needed to see the impact or to be an MCR mentor. If you can and you care, you have what it takes. Not just to make, but to experience a life changing difference.

The Oceti Sakowin Community Academy was developed in partnership with NDN Collective, Native American Inspired Schools Network and NDN Holdings, a for-profit entity owned by NDN Collective. NDN Holdings played a pivotal role in securing building space and land for OSCA and its future school site. โWhen it came to the school, NDN Holdings acted as a thought partner to support Mary and others in the planning phase,โ said Robby Burroughs (Dry Creek Pomo), NDN Holdings Managing Director. In addition to addressing educational justice, language and culture revitalization, OSCA also represents a huge step toward #LANDBACK in South Dakota. The site of OSCAโs new school is currently in development and will be wholly owned by the school upon completion. โIn the most literal sense, this school is on Indigenous land, owned by an Indigenous organization that will eventually be owned by the Academy. So in that aspect, itโs definitely LANDBACK,โ Robby said. To read more, visit: ndnco.cc/is-osca or click 'Read Latest Blogs' link in our bio.#IndigenousCulture #IndigenousLanguages #IndigenousPhilosophy #IndigenousEducation #NDNCollective
